Der am 23. Februar 1948 in Hayes (London) geborene britische Rock-Bassist und Sänger Stephen Norman «Steve» Priest ist am 4. Juni 2020 gestorben. Er war Gründungsmitglied der britischen Rockband The Sweet.

The Sweet bassist Steve Priest dies aged 72

He was known for his playful humour and outrageous costumes when Sweet played hits like Blockbuster and Little Willy on Top of the Pops in the 1970s.

Priest also sang the memorable lines «there’s a girl in the corner that no-one ignores, ‚cos she thinks she’s the passionate one,» in Ballroom Blitz.

In den Siebzigern wurde die Band mit Stücken wie «Teenage Rampage», «Blockbuster» und «Fox On The Run» und mit extravaganten Bühnenoutfits weltberühmt. Auch im deutschen Fernsehen war die Gruppe häufig zu sehen und trat unter anderem mehrfach im «Musikladen» auf.
