Die am 7. September 1946 in Augusta (Georgia) geborene US-amerikanische Sängerin Alfa Anderson ist am 17. Dezember 2024 gestorben. Weltweit bekannt wurde sie in den 1970er-Jahren als Mitglied der Band Chic von Nile Rodgers und Bernard Edwards, mit der sie in den grössten Hits wie «Le Freak», «Good Times», «My Forbidden Lover» oder «I Want Your Love» prominent zu hören war. Vor und nach ihrer Chic-Zeit arbeitete Alfa Anderson mit Grössen wie Cannonball Adderley, Nat Adderley, Roy Buchanan, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, Quincy Jones, Luther Vandross, Bryan Adams, Mick Jagger, Bryan Ferry oder Sheena Easton zusammen.

She sang the famous refrain “Le freak, c’est chic” on one of the biggest hits of the disco era and was a sought-after vocalist for many prominent artists.

Ms. Anderson’s voice became a constant presence in the disco era from her work with the band Chic and with other prominent artists, including Sister Sledge, Diana Ross and Mick Jagger.
